Meeting features the Cumberland Plateau
The Executive Director of the Alliance for the Cumberlands, Katherine Medlock, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory Corporate Fellow Virginia Dale will be the featured speakers at the upcoming Annual Meeting for Tennessee Citizens for Wilderness Planning. The day will also include a choice of hikes, Burnt Mill Bridge or Colditz Cove.
The Alliance for the Cumberlands, a coalition of organizations with an interest in the Plateau, is the sponsoring organization for the Cumberland Plateau National Heritage Corridor Feasibility/Suitability Study currently underway. Dale has been conducting research to determine the most desirable ecological outcomes for the plateau.
The Burnt Mill Bridge Hike is a 4 mile loop in the southwest corner of the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. This rich, biologically diverse trail runs mostly along a horseshoe bend of the Clear Fork with about 3/4 mile of the trail going up, over and down the neck of the river bend. This is the first of four Burnt Mill Bridge hikes to be held each season.
The Colditz Cove hike, in a small scenic area about 10 miles west of Rugby, is an easy 2 mile hike that includes an overlook, and goes under a waterfall.
