This event is sponsored by TCWP and TNPS. We will start at Peavine Rd. and hike southbound on the Cumberland Trail about 2.5 miles to Daddy’s Creek, where we’ll eat lunch. The hike will take us through some rock houses. You can turn back to Peavine Rd. at any point, making a hike of the length you desire, but the best part is at the 2.5-mile point, where the hike turns back. In addition to wildflowers, the mountain laurel should be in flower. For those going the full distance, the hike is 5 miles.
There are steep, rough rock steps, and rocks and roots in the trail. Elevation change is moderate. The outing will last several hours.
We’ll meet for carpooling in Oak Ridge in the Gold’s Gym/Books-A-Million parking lot (the end close to S. Illinois Avenue, near Salsarita’s) in time to leave at 8:45 a.m. Eastern time – OR – you can meet the group at the Marathon Gas Station at the I-40 Crab Orchard exit 329 east of Crossville (52 Main St, Crab Orchard; 35.908715047614265, -84.87526755741177) at 10 a.m. Eastern.
Bring water, a lunch, and bug spray.
